hat is a voice?

The voice of a verb tells whether the subject of the sentences performs or receives the action. There are two types of Voice:-

1.Active voice

  1. Passive voice

Active voice:-     The subject performs the action expressed by the verb.

Passive voice:-  The subject receives the action expressed by the verb.

Rules of conversation from Active to passive:-

  1. Identify the subject, the verb, and the object.
  2. change the object into the subject.
  3. Put the suitable helping verb.
  4. Change the verb into past participle of the verb.
  5. Always add the preposition “by”.
  6. change the subject into the object.
  7. Always use the verb 3rd form in the passive voice

   There are Eight types of Passive voice:-

1.Simple Present Tense

2. Present Continuous Tense

3. Present Present Tense

4. Simple Past Tense

5. Past Continuous Tense

6. Past perfect tense

7. Simple Future Tense

8. Future Perfect Tense

 1. Simple present tense:-

Affirmative Tense Rule of active voice :- 

                                               subject+verb 1st form +s/es+object.

Use of “s” and”es”:- The helping verb  “s” and “es” are used with  ( such as Noun, He, She, It  )

Use of verb 1st form with They, We, You, I and plural.

Affirmative Tense Rule of Passive voice:-  

 Object+ helping verb (is/am/are)+ verb 3rd form +by + subject.

Examples:-

Active voice:-            I drink a cup of coffee.

Passive voice:-         A cup of coffee is drunk by me.

Active voice:-          You surprise me.

Passive Voice:-       I am surprised by you.

                 Negative Tense- Rule of Active voice:-

                                     subject+ do/does +not+object .

Use of “do”:- the  helping verb “do” is used with Plural (such as They, We, You, I )

Use of “does”:- the  helping verb”does”  is used with Singular ( such as Noun, He, She, It  )

        Negative Tense- Rule of Passive voice:-

                     Object+ helping verb (is/am/are)+ not + verb 3rd form +by + subject.

 Examples:- 

Active Voice:-       I  do not drink a cup of coffee.

Passive Voice:–      A cup of coffee is not drunk by me.

Active voice:-       Children do not play a video game.

Passive Voice:-     A video game is not played by children.

                 Interrogative Tense Rule of Active Voice:-

                                       Do /Does +subject+verb 1st form+object+?

                                     < Wh>+Do /Does +subject+verb 1st form+object+?

 <wh> family:- what, why, when, where, who, whom, whose, which, and how.

  Interrogative Tense Rule of Passive Voice:-

                           Helping Verb(Is/Am/Are) +object+verb 3rd form+ by+Subject+?

                         < Wh>+Helping Verb(Is/Am/Are)+object+verb 3rd form+ by+Subject+?

 <wh> family:- what, why, when, where, who, whom, whose, which, and how.

Examples:-

Active Voice:-          Do I drink a cup of coffee?

Passive Voice:-        Is a cup of coffee drunk by me?

Active voice:-          Do children play a video game?

Passive Voice:-       Is a video game played by children?

Active voice:-          Who kill the snake?

Passive Voice:-       By whom is the snake killed?

  Interrogative Tense Rule of Active Voice:-

                                       Do /Does +subject+ not+verb 1st form+object+?

 <wh> family:- what, why, when, where, who, whom, whose, which, and how.

          Interrogative+ negative Tense Rule of Passive Voice:-

              Helping Verb( Is/Am/Are) +Object+ not+verb 3rd form+ by+Subject+?

< Wh>+ Helping Verb( Is/Am/Are) +Object+not+verb 3rd form+by+Subject+?

          <wh> family:- what, why, when, where, who, whom, whose, which, and how.

Examples:-

Active Voice:-     Do I not drink a cup of coffee?

Passive Voice:-   Is a cup of coffee not drunk by me?

Active voice:-      Do children not play a video game?

Passive Voice:-   Is a video game not played by children?

2.Present continuous tense:-

   Affirmative Tense Rule of Active Voice:- 

                             subject+ is/am/are+verb 1st form+ing +object.

Use of”is”:- The helping verb “is” is used with Singular ( such as Noun, He, She, It  ).

Use of “am”:- The helping verb “am” is only used with  I.

Use of “are”:- the helping verb”are” is used with Plural (such as They, We, You).

 3. Present Perfect Tense:-

             Affirmative Tense Rule of Active voice:- 

                               subject+ Has/Have+verb 3rd form +object.

Use of “has”:- the helping verb  “has” is used with Singular ( such as Noun, He, She, It  )

Use of “have”:- the helping verb”have” is used with Plural (such as They, We, You, I )

   Affirmative Tense Rule of passive voice:- 

                             Object+ Has/Have+been+verb 3rd form +by+subject.

Examples:-

Active Voice:-        I have finished my work.

Passive Voice:-     My work has been finished by me.

Active Voice: –      She has received my letter.

Passive Voice:-     My letter has been received by her.

                Negative Tense Rule of Active Voice:-

                              subject+ Has/Have+ not+verb 3rd form +object.

         Negative Tense Rule of Passive Voice:-

                             Object+ Has/Have+ not+been+verb 3rd form +by+subject.

Examples:-

Active Voice:-        I have not finished my work.

Passive Voice:-     My work has not been finished by me.

Active Voice: –      She has not received my letter.

Passive Voice:-     My letter has not been received by her.
