Recent IELTS Speaking Part 1 Questions With Answers: Public Transport

Question 1. What is the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?

Answer – The most popular means of transportation is in my hometown; I consider Mumbai my hometown, as I was born and brought up here. We consider the local train as the lifeline of Mumbai as it is accessible to all age groups, from children going to school to teenagers going to college and adults going to the office. It is effective for travelling distances within cities connecting suburbs at cheaper rates.

Question 2. Is driving to work popular in your country?

Answer – Usually, it is not very popular in India compared to other countries. We have many public transport modes: local buses, trains, metro trains, taxis, and auto-rickshaws. India is one such nation having auto-rickshaws travelling at the meter rate. So, normally people prefer going by public transport over private vehicle, though private vehicles have shown an increasing trend in the past few years public transport remains the favourite.

Question 3. Do you (people) prefer public transport or private transport?

Answer – In my opinion, it depends on the location. The parking space issue has been started for some years now as most public own their private vehicle. If I have to go to the office, I would prefer a private vehicle as we get a designated parking space, but if I have to go to crowded events or markets, I will opt for public transport.

Question 4. Will you use public transport more in the future?

Answer – Yes, I would prefer to use public transport more in the future because I feel private vehicle usage has increased tremendously in the past few years. Diesel, when used up, emits harmful gases like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, which cause air pollution and global warming. Various campaigns and awareness programs are set up to educate the public to use public transport more than own private vehicles.

Question 5. Are there any traffic problems in your area?

Answer – Mumbai is well-known for its fast-paced life, and there is traffic congestion in various parts of the city, including where I live. However, now these traffic problems are being addressed by building the metro rails and starting the metro trains connecting various suburbs of the cities, gradually decreasing the traffic congestion on the road. People find it easier to commute through the metro or local trains than on the road.

Question 6. How would you improve transport in your town or area?

Answer – Transport can be improved by clearly marking the crossroads and also the sidewalks. This will help access transport seamlessly and improve mobility around the town.

Question 7. How would you reduce traffic problems in your area?

Answer – The government takes various measures to improve transport conditions. As I mentioned, metro rails have started operating from the various areas connecting the suburbs to the cities. This has brought a significant shift in transport issues, and we anticipate more such changes shortly.

Question 8. How do you think public transport could be improved?

Answer – Improve bus frequency in remote areas, and have a systematic bus ticketing system to avoid overcrowding. Passenger safety and comfort can also be taken into consideration.
