In recent times, there has been a growing concern globally about the dangers of pollution. While some individuals think that the best way to improve air quality is to manage car ownership, opponents believe that there are more appropriate means to tackle this problem. This essay shall strongly subscribe to the former. Meanwhile, the two constructing views shall be critically analysed.
On the one hand, the main reason people think limiting the use of automobiles is the best means of improving air quality is that the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted by vehicles has a profound impact on the environment compared to other factors. Undoubtedly, the demand for cars by the general population is rising at an alarming rate, which is parallel to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted. For example, recent studies have shown that there are billions of fumes of carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles each year which is a major contributing factor to climate change. Clearly, reducing the number of cars on the road can significantly help.
On the other hand, others perceive that the effect associated with the use of automobiles is less devastating. They believe alternative means, such as planting more trees and controlling the fumes produced by factories, are more effective in solving this problem. Although the effect of industries on air quality is outrageous, the extent cannot be compared to car emissions. To buttress this point, recent studies by environmental science students at Kwame Nkrumah University show that CO2 emissions contribute considerably to air pollution compared to fumes produced by factories.
In conclusion, both sides of the argument have their merits. On balance, however, the government should set stringent measures on car ownership and government institutions that are lax in regulating waste gases produced by companies.
