Well, I had been working in a school in the past, and at the time, I got a chance to have a visit outside with students of the 8th class to enhance their knowledge about electricity production. We decided to go to a thermal power plant, so we went to Guru Gobind Singh thermal plant, which was 12 kilometres away from Ropar district. The reason behind this visit is to make students aware of the wise use of electricity and how burning energy sources create pollution.

It was a novel experience for me too because I had never got a chance to visit such places before. So it was a very knowledgeable experience for me. When we arrived there, we were surprised to see how much electricity we waste like when we don’t switch off lights and leave them on. In addition, students got to know that coal and water are the two main sources of energy there. Secondly, how water was used to cool down the machines and the wastewater was then again sent to water bodies.

So in this way, they realised that how thermal pollution is created. So students updated them by visiting, thereby knowing about energy sources as well as how the machines operate and how these are maintained. Overall, it was a good experience for the students, and they took a pledge, not to overuse electricity. Furthermore, they also got a difference that coal, which was used in thermal, created more pollution than using other fossil fuels like petroleum.

So, they ask my permission to make a model for electricity generation, and they decided to present it at a science exhibition, which was held last year in November. They got first prize and answered all the questions which they asked. So this visit made them using eco-friendly products and clean their environment.
