Well, I live in India and the Indian government has enacted a variety of laws for the better life of Indian citizens. These laws are written in the constitution of India. For instance, the Anti-smoking act, drunk, drive law, maternity benefits law and so on the act are passed by the public sector of India.

But here, I would like to talk about a law named the dowry prohibition act. This law enacted by the Indian government in 1961. This law made to pun an end to the dowry system in India. The dowry system in India refers to the durable goods, cash, and moveable or real property that the bride’s family gives to the bridegroom, his parents and relatives as a condition of the marriage.

It is known as Dahez in Hindi. In the past time, parents give some household things to their daughter and her husband in order to help them in their new married life. but many greedy people fixed it as a condition for marriage. Besides it, In some cases, the dowry system leads to a crime against women, ranging from emotional abuse and injury to deaths such as some persons kill their law-in-daughter for dowry.

According to this law, giving dowry in India is now prohibited. Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code required the bridegroom and his family to be automatically arrested if a wife complains of dowry harassment. Court gives imprisonment and fine to criminals of the dowry prohibition act.

All in all,  this law protects poverty-stricken people from being deceived by greedy persons. Moreover, the Indian constitution has provided the different types of laws and rights to the people to protect their fundamentals rights but unfortunately, most of the human beings are not aware of their rights.

These areas increasing maternity benefit from 12 weeks to 26 weeks for two surviving children and 12 weeks for more than two children; 12 weeks Maternity Benefit to a ‘Commissioning mother’ and ‘Adopting mother.’ And the reason behind these amendments is maternal care to the child during early childhood- crucial for growth and development of the child.

Moreover, this law provides tension free and valuable time with a child for her mother.  Now, a mother can easily take care of her child. She can take maternity leave easily as well as take care of themselves during pregnancy.
