Most individuals believe that hard work and singleness are the primary ingredients for achieving success in life. At the same time, some believe that other factors contribute to a fulfilling life. In this essay, I will discuss both angles, after which I will render my opinion.
On one hand, being a hard worker or someone who is highly focused implies that such a person cannot easily be distracted by unrewarding activities, this means that when an individual is determined to reach a set of goals and also willing to put in the required amount of efforts to accomplish said goals, they are most likely to remain steadfast and not be carried away by frivolities. The ability to maintain focus greatly increases the possibility of success in life. For instance, someone who is committed to reaching a financial goal is more intentional about the kinds of things they spend money on, choosing to spend money only on necessities rather than on mundane things.
However, effort and zeal alone, in the absence of the right opportunity, can significantly undermine one’s chances of living a contented life. When the opportunity to apply a skill obtained through tireless work does not present itself, there will be no platform to express this skill or benefit from the potential reward it could bring. For example, at university, students are equipped with knowledge and skills. Despite this, if there are no platforms in the the form of jobs or an enabling social and economic environment to allow them to to showcase their talents and earn money, their chances of having a good life areare significantly compromised.
In conclusion, success is a result of various contentious factors. Although the ability to avoid distractions and apply oneself could, to an extent, guarantee a rewarding future, I think that, in addition to this, the right opportunity or avenue to showcase these inherent capabilities is also an essential component of self-actualisation.
