The two pie charts illustrate the major reasons why students selected particular universities within the United Kingdom between 1997 and 2007.
Overall, suitable degree courses have stood out as a favourable reason for students for a decade. While being close to the parental home initially was the least favourable reason, later on, in 2007, it turned out to be the second sweetest. On the other hand, good sports and social activities were the last choice for UK students; nevertheless, other reasons remain relatively the same.
In 1997 and 2007, the suitable degree courses Stayed stagnant, as the popular reason, with a rate of 35 per cent and 37 per cent, consecutively, with a gap of 2 per cent over the decade.
In the beginning, close to the parental home was the least popular reason, at 10 per cent out of the five outlined above. Surprisingly, over the decade, the reason changed to be the second choice, with 22 per cent. However, good sports and social activities were insignificantly popular, at 19 per cent in 1997, then became unpopular at 6 per cent in the next ten years.
