In the recent past, the significance of plants and animals has been extensively recognised; however, they are facing extinction at an alarming rate. This calls for precautionary actions to be taken to maintain them. In this essay, I will discuss the steps that can be taken to preserve biodiversity.
Firstly, individuals should be made to understand the importance of biodiversity in the ecosystem. For example, knowing that one animal is key in balancing the ecosystem will encourage individuals to take measures to preserve it. Human beings will stop animal poaching and illegal logging. Nevertheless, the approach seems less effective because humans are greedy for money and do not give a heart to such sensitisation. In any case, creating awareness would be better than leaving humans to destroy living things due to a lack of knowledge of their importance.
Secondly, the government should pass laws that limit factories from releasing toxic substances into the environment. Production activities, for example, lead to the emission of gases which pollute the environment. Moreover, firms can dump waste products into water bodies, causing water pollution. Air and water pollution destroy the habitats of plants and animals, causing their death. It is, therefore, necessary for the government to prohibit firms from endangering biodiversity. Although some companies may defy the law, the majority of their activities will help prevent the extinction of flora and fauna.
In conclusion, the existence of several animal species and vegetation is vital, so the government and individuals can play an important role in protecting them to ensure that they do not become extinct.
