Young People Are Often Influenced in Their Behaviours by Others in The Same Age Group. Some Argue that Peer Pressure Is Important, While Others Feel It Has Distinct Disadvantages. Do the Disadvantages of Peer Pressure Outweigh the Advantages?

Sample answer: Young People Are Often Influenced in Their Behaviours by Others in The Same Age Group

Nowadays, the attitudes of adolescents are often influenced by others in the same age group. While some believe that peer pressure is crucial, I am of the opinion that the demerits of group pressure surpass the merits. 🤔

To begin with, one of the major disadvantages of peer pressure is experimentation. 🚬 Many young people are easily swayed by what they observe and tend to experiment in order to understand how it feels. For example, someone who is friends with an alcoholic or a smoker will likely want to drink or smoke one day. This experimentation has led to various health issues, such as drug abuse. 💊 Adolescents should be properly cared for, especially during this critical stage of their development. Parents must pay extra attention to their needs, because if they do not find what they seek at home, they will look for it elsewhere—often among their friends. Additionally, peer influence can lead to low self-esteem. 😔 Some friends can make others feel inferior. In the worst cases, individuals may fall into depression due to constant bullying or negative behavior from their peers. 🧠

However, peer influence does have some positive impacts. 📚 One of them is that it can promote academic achievement and positive learning behaviors. For instance, studies have shown that when a low-performing student interacts with an intelligent friend, their academic performance often improves significantly. Good friends motivate each other and help one another become better individuals in society. 🎓

In conclusion, although peer influence has some advantages, I personally believe that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits, as it often leads to unnecessary experimentation and a loss of self-esteem. 🚫
