Well, when I was a child, one of my most memorable and enjoyable free-time activities was visiting and working on my family’s cocoa farm ๐ฑ. The farm was located in a small and peaceful village called Nsanke, in the Moungo Region. Even today, whenever I go back home, I still feel a deep sense of nostalgia when I visit that place.
Back then, I used to spend most of my weekends there. To be honest, at first, it wasn’t precisely a choiceโit was more of a responsibility assigned by my parents ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ฆ. My primary duty was to inspect the cocoa plants and inform them when the pods were ripe for harvesting. Over time, though, what started as an obligation slowly turned into one of my favourite leisure activities.
Since I was pretty young, I often felt a bit anxious about snakes ๐, which were quite common on the farm. That’s why I always asked my younger brother, Franklin, to accompany me. Together, we turned the whole thing into a fun adventure rather than just work. Every Saturday, we would eagerly pack some snacks, take our farm tools, and head to the field.
One thing I particularly enjoyed was cracking open a fresh cocoa pod and tasting the sweet pulp inside ๐. It was such a small pleasure, yet it made our hard work feel worthwhile. Additionally, I gained valuable knowledge about agriculture, teamwork, and patience, which helped shape my personality as I grew older.
๐ From a broader perspective, farming not only benefited my family but also supported our local community’s economy by providing employment and income. In a way, I felt proud to contribute to something meaningful at such a young age.
So, spending time on the cocoa farm was not just a hobby; it was an educational and character-building experience ๐ฟ. Even now, whenever I recall those moments, I feel a deep connection to my roots and appreciate the simplicity and beauty of rural life.
