Sample Answer: Describe a Situation when People Congratulated You

When I was in junior high school in 2014, I cracked my Form Four national exam with an overall grade of B. It was not excellent compared to the other biggest and most popular schools, but in my school, it was a marvellous outcome of the half-decade since the school started to operate officially.

So my parents and relatives pay a visit to our house for the purpose of recognition for what I have done in my national exam, so each of them, I received a lot of gifts from them, but the gift that won my heart was a Liverpool jersey I got from my father as a congratulations on my extraordinary performance.

I still remember that day when I felt like I was an important person in my family, as all those people came from their homes just to give their congratulations.

Question 1: On what occasions do people congratulate someone in your culture?

There are many occasions when people in my country pay congratulations to someone, but mostly, they congratulate somebody on a life achievement, like marriage or passing a national exam. I can say I have seen lots of people receive congratulations on their wedding day, especially when they marry young people, because elders in my country appreciate those younger people who decide to start a family young.

Question 2: How do people offer congratulations in your culture?

I can say that my tribe or society, where I grew up, behaves differently. There are two tribes, but the most dominant is Konde. So, over there, people offer gifts like a piece of land or a cow as a precious present, and people appreciate that kind of offer because it shows a sign of respect when someone offers you land as a gift.

Question 3: Is success important in your culture?

Success has different meanings in every society. However, in my country, we share the same meaning. In my opinion, around the globe, we have the same meaning, as success is an essential part of anybody’s life. Anyone living in this world has his or her own goals, and when he or she achieves them, that will be his or her success. So it’s very important in my culture, and across the globe, it is the same.

Question 4: How do people achieve success in their lives?

Achieving success differs from one to another as the level of our goals is different also, so at the beginning, we have dreams for a reason, so the hardest part is how to transform them into reality so that we plan for strategies what will do in order to get into reality so in my personal experience it is not a simple task as it looks like on superficial appearance on someone life journey when you jump in you will realize how tough the journey it is, to finalize the topic I can say dedication, consistency and hardworking are the vital ways on becoming successful in every aspect of life.

Question 5: What factors contribute to a person’s success?

When you ask people around, I believe everyone will have their own answer. However, some factors are vital or common to success. In my opinion, consistency and the desire to be successful will drive you to have a positive mindset despite the ups and downs.

Question 6: Do people need motivation to succeed in their work?

Honestly, I do not believe in motivations because, in my personal experience, motivations make my personal life journey just like a gas cooker. You can start in harsh conditions, but go low on motivation when the gas dries. You can do harder when motivations hit harder in your head, but when it doesn’t get you, you just lose focus, so instead I believe in consistency and desire why I want this or that so these can give me energy in my everyday life to get up early to fight for what I need the most.
