The two pie charts compare the proportions of electricity consumed by various sectors in Eastern Australia in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the residential and commercial sectors consumed the largest share of electricity in both years. While the percentage used by the residential, commercial, mining, agriculture and transport sectors remained unchanged, there were noticeable changes in manufacturing and metal industries.
In 2007, the residential sector was the biggest consumer of electricity, accounting for 28% of total consumption. The commercial sector followed at 23%. Manufacturing and aluminium each represented 13%, while other metals consumed 12%. Mining accounted for 9%, whereas agriculture and transport used the smallest proportions, at only 1% each.
By 2010, electricity consumption in the residential and commercial sectors stayed stable at 28% and 23%, respectively. Similarly, mining remained at 9%, and both agriculture and transport continued to consume just 1%. However, the proportion used by manufacturing decreased significantly from 13% to 9%, and aluminium consumption also fell slightly from 13% to 11%. In contrast, the share for other metals increased considerably from 12% in 2007 to 18% in 2010, making it the third largest consumer in 2010.
Overall, the charts show that household and commercial electricity use dominated throughout the period, while the metal sector experienced the most significant growth.
