In Many Countries Around the World, Life Expectancy Is Increasing

In many countries around the world, life expectancy is increasing. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this situation and give your own opinion.

In recent times, due to technological advancement, countries are experiencing a rise in their residents’ lifespan. This could be beneficial for some nations. However, it has damaging consequences for other countries. This essay will argue on both sides of the argument and finally conclude with a compromise between the two positions.

On the one hand, some countries are facing a severe shortage of employees across all the departments of the organizations. With an increase in people’s duration of life, labour supply would not be a problem anymore, which results in flourishing the business across the world. For instance, several countries in the European continent and Canada are somewhat experiencing a dearth of workers, which in turn impacts their nation’s economy to some extent. Therefore, if natives of these countries start living a longer life, it will help them to have sufficient staff to do the pending jobs and drive the nation towards prosperity on both national and international platforms.

On the other hand, if there is an increase in people’s length of life, it will cause a surge in population. This will certainly create dire financial and people-management problems, especially for the developing and poor nations, as these are not considered to be self-sufficient in providing all the daily essentials to their citizens, which are paramount to life. For example, a country like India, which has the second-highest population in the world, and where myriads of inhabitants are living an impoverished life, if it experiences longevity in one’s life duration, this might cause havoc and make it extremely challenging for the governmental authorities to control the situation.

To conclude, although increased life expectancy seems to be viable to manage affairs like labour scarcity in some countries, for others, it will only exacerbate the existing circumstances. However, this would rather be helpful if the populace leads a healthy life on their own and somewhere contributing to the nation’s development.
