There are many laws implemented by the constitution of our country for the smooth running of life in society, the state, and the nation 🏛️. Without these laws, life could descend into utter chaos 😟. The law I am going to discuss is the law against female foeticide 🚫👶. This law came into existence about two decades ago 📅.
Female foeticide involves killing a female child before birth, driven by the desire to have a male child 👶🔍. Some people believe that only a male child can become their heir 👨👩👧👦. This tradition has persisted for centuries, but governments became concerned when the ratio of males to females became significantly skewed ⚖️.
At one point, the ratio dropped to a critical level of 1000 males to 937 females in Punjab 📉. Recognizing the severity of the problem, governments acted. One major factor exacerbating this issue was the role of hospitals 🏥. People could determine the gender of the child before birth with the help of doctors 🩺.
To address this, the government enacted a law prohibiting the determination of the child’s gender before birth 🚫👶. The law stipulates that doctors who reveal the gender of the child can face imprisonment and hefty fines ⚖️💰. This measure has significantly controlled the practice and has been beneficial for improving the gender ratio in the country 🌟.
