Some people believe that engaging in an active pastime does more to develop children’s life skills than time spent reading. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Yes, I agree that children engaging in active pastimes help in the development of the child’s life skills to a great extent, but not totally. As the saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” This phrase emphasizes the importance of children having active pastimes because not all life skills can be learned through reading.

In my opinion, when children engage in extracurricular activities, it helps them build strength and intuitive thinking and increases their intelligence quotient as they play different games. Also, when they play with other children, it helps build their confidence and interpersonal skills. These life skills cannot be learned just by reading, but this is not to say that reading is not important.

Reading is also important for children, as it helps them learn new words, which aids in building their vocabulary. Reading exposes children to a variety of topics depending on the types of books they read. For example, when a child reads a history book, he/she learns about past events that might not be taught in school.

Reading involves sitting for long hours, which can lead to boredom. It can cause the child to become obese due to a lack of exercise, which can be obtained from having an active pastime. Children who have active pastimes are often healthier and more energetic compared to those who read alone.

As highlighted above, having a pastime has its benefits, and reading also has its benefits. I will conclude by saying that children should have both active pastimes and reading time, but they should have more active pastimes since this helps in the development of life skills more effectively in children.

In the 21st century, some people may argue that participating in activities is superior to reading. I partially agree with this statement. This essay will outline my agreement along with relevant examples.

The primary reason for my agreement stems from various factors. Firstly, and perhaps most notably, is the positive effect that engaging in exercise has on physical health. To elaborate, taking part in active exercise provides children with enhanced physical abilities. In fact, those who participate in active pastimes are less likely to suffer from illnesses in adulthood. My own experience demonstrates that exercising regularly helped relieve my asthma during childhood.

On the other hand, participating in activities has negative effects, such as a decline in study hours. To clarify, children who engage in physical activities daily may struggle to find time for studying. This issue could impact their literacy skills when learning at school, searching for jobs, and working, compared to those who spend more time reading.

In conclusion, the above arguments reveal that spending time reading is not necessarily inferior to engaging in activities. Due to this, I believe that reading and participating in activities have advantages and disadvantages for children’s development of life skills.

Theory and practice are two different types of things, where the latter is more effective. However, it is argued that involving children in daily life activities or merely reading is more beneficial for them. Despite this fact, I strongly believe that providing children with real-life experience is worth more, and the essay will discuss the rationales.

Hands-on experience is the proven and best learning method, especially for youngsters. They are just at the beginning of their life, which is the best time to grab anything. It helps them acquire pragmatic experiences which will last long in their memory. Moreover, it is the most efficient mechanism to learn, and For example, children cannot learn how to swim by reading swimming books; they must be allowed to get down in a pool or pond to learn the exercise. Furthermore, it helps them be independent. If they learn how to lead their lives, they will not rely on anybody else. For example, if juveniles knew how to cook and shop, they would not be dependent on their parents for food to be cooked. They can do it by themselves if necessary. Last but not least, this way, they will be realistic, which will help them be strong and achieve their life goals.

Although being pragmatic is an effective method of learning, there is also the necessity of reading. They must read academic textbooks, other books, magazines, newspapers, and even articles on various topics. This is now very convenient to find anything to read on the Internet. Without reading, they cannot earn knowledge. This habit must be made from their childhood. As a result, they might be a good reader as they grow up. Moreover, reading would help them distinguish between the theory and real life, which also helps them be more accurate and confident in making any crucial decision in their life.

In conclusion, despite the great importance of reading, familiarizing young people with real life or learning something practical is more useful for their life and career. Books help them know things, but the reality might help them learn more efficiently and effectively. Therefore, I reiterate that involving flash and blood in real-life activities does more development of their life.
