Overall, it can be seen from the chart that food and cars had the highest percentage while computers and restaurants had a minuscule percentage.
In 1966, the citizens of the United States spent most of their money on food which accounted for 44 per cent, and car expenditure had 23 per cent of the expenses. Then, restaurants, petrol, books and furniture were 7%, 9%, 6%, and 10%, respectively, while the least spending was on computers which were 1%.
In 1996, car spending increased significantly from 23% to 45%. Also, computers and restaurants rose from 1% to 9 % and 7% to 14%, respectively. Moreso, furniture and petrol witnessed a decline from 10% to 8% and 9% to 8% respectively, while books declined drastically from 6% to 1% as the least spending in 1996.
