The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons.

The table illustrates the data regarding the percentage of money spent on various basic needs in five nations in 2002. Overall, according to the table, the proportions of consumers’ expenditure on food/beverages and cigarettes were the highest. In contrast, the counterparts on leisure and education were the lowest among the five countries.

As transparent from the table, Turkish consumers paid for food/drinks/tobacco the most at 32.14% of their total spending, almost twice as much as the figures for Italian and Swedish (18.80%) and 15.77%, respectively). Furthermore, in terms of outfit materials, Ireland, Spain and Turkey nearly shared similar percentages at about 6.50%, while Italy had the highest with approximately 9.00%.

Finally, with regards to the least paid item, while Turkish consumers purchased the most for this with 4.35% compared to others, the figure of Spain only equalled one-fourth of the former.
